It’s been another hectic day for VoC here in Music City. Besides working on all the programming you hear on Voice of Country, we spent some time on Music Row, catching up on all the latest insider rumblings. Here’s what we found out…
Another new label is about to see the light of day, headed up by top Nashville producer James Stroud , who’s worked with countless top Country stars. Straudavarious Records is being launched with headquarters on Music Square East in the heart of Music Row. Although no announcements have yet been made, rumours are sweeping Music City that artists who will be heard on the new label include Darryl Worley (with whom Stroud worked at Dreamworks), Lorrie Morgan and Willie Nelson. Deborah Allen is also reported to be involved in a compilation project to be issued by the new company.
Meanwhile, a visit to Capitol Records in Nashville’s West End put us in the centre of the hurricane of activity surrounding the brand new Trace Adkins single, to be released in a matter of days. VoC got the chance to hear the track before anyone else outside of Capitol employees.
“Muddy Water” is a dramatic ballad, with lyrics focusing on baptism and rebirth. A choir turns up about halfway through the production, emphasizing the gospel feel of the track. It sounds magnificent, and should be the perfect set-up for Trace’s new studio album, coming out in the fall.
Meanwhile, we’re getting ready to welcome more stars to VoC’s Nashville studios, with Rebecca Lynn Howard due to drop by shortly and a possible phone-in from UK-bound Dierks Bentley in the works. John Michael Montgomery is also looming on the horizon as a visitor in the near future.
