Tim McGraw is the latest Country star to be accused in a private lawsuit of stealing a song.
Tim, along with songwriters Craig Wiseman and Mike Reid, producers Byron Gallimore and James Stroud, and the Curb record label, are jointly accused of copyright infringement in the song "Everywhere". The song was a Number One for Tim in 1997.
A Texas artist and producer named James Martinez is claiming that "Everywhere" is substantially similar to his 1996 composition, "Anytime, Anywhere Amanda". Martinez is seeking $20 million damage.
However, there appears to be no direct evidence that Tim or the other defendants had ever heard Martinez's song. Martinez is basing his claim on the fact that "Hard on the Ticker", on the same album as "Everywhere", is also similar to a Martinez track, and that Tim used the same studio as Terri Clark, who Martinez alleges also recorded a song that infringes on one of his copyrights.
The lawsuit against Tim and the other defendants is currently pending in a US District Court in Nashville, where it was moved from Corpus Christi, Texas.
